I’m no longer asked for my ID when I buy spray paint. This is when I first knew I was an adult. But now, I’ll be 24 this week and I still can’t rent a car without paying exorbitant fees for being “under age”, disgrace.
Onto the point. I want to share a a chance meeting of two objects in my house, and as they say, Oh it is love.
Orange Foo Dog, I like you, but you just weren’t working. I tried, I tried really hard, but in the end, you needed someone else…
Meet your new lovah, Krylon Silver Foil Metallic. This is seriously my all time favorite silver spray paint. It looks oh so real and coats ever so gently in only one coat. Seriously, one coat does the job. It doesn’t make that loud chhhhhhhh sound when you spray it either, but it sounds like the flapping of angel wings. I would NOT kid about this. Here is a link to the Krylon website there’s plenty of other colors to choose from.
It’s so shiny, and looks like real metal. I can’t say enough good things about this. I even used it on my cabinet hardware and it has held up really well. It doesn’t scratch easily, and I’ve been wanting to try it on my doorknobs and hinges, but let’s not get ahead of myself.
I wasn’t crazy about my bookshelves, I guess I wanted a more cohesive color story and the orange just wasn’t ME. So here they are! All shiny and new.
Yeah, put your sunglasses on, its shiny.
I wanted to compare it with a silver seashell I bought at target. This is just the silver foil color, but I wonder how different the chrome option would look.
I had this failed project laying around so I silver’d it up too. Not much to say about what I did to it, I’m embarrassed honestly.
It’s now hiding living in the bookshelf. I’ve made this rule that the bookcase cannot have the same arrangements for more than a week. So far so good!
It’s progressing with a little help from spray paint!
Love the new color! The orange was cute but, you’re right, the silver matches better with what you have going on.
24? Happy (almost?) Birthday! If you were to move to Nevada you would not only have the rental fees for cars but you would also have to retake the written portion of the driving exam for your license (that was fun…). Mean of them, isn’t it?
Sometimes I miss the orange, but I know in my heart of hearts that it wasn’t meant to be.
My birthday is the 6th, and note to self, don’t move to Nevada. I really hate anything that has to do with the DMV or tag agencies. Everything they say is true.
I’m so excited to see this. I’ve tried silver paints before but they always end up looking really flat and REALLY FAKE. I have about 6 ideas spinning around in my head already. Thanks!
Agreed. Most silvers I’ve tried were pretty lackluster. Glad to help!
Too cute! I’ll have to try that spray paint out!
I MUST see if you do!
I’ll be at HD this w/e picking up a can of the paint! :) thanks for the tip. maybe I’ll send you a shot of my newly sprayed silver-something.
Yes yes! Please do! If you don’t find it there, try a craft store. I’d love to see how some of the other colors turn out too. Maybe the 18 karat gold cause I’m rich like that.
I thought the Foo dog was a giant statue at first by the first picture, haha, till I scrolled down, then saw they were little Foo dogs. They look great! Love the silver! And the shell comparison looks really good! Glad I read this post because I am making a plank table as soon as my metal legs from Ikea come in, or should I say hope to attempt to make a plank table. :) Anyway since I can’t afford 150.00 chairs times 4,,, I am painting the ones I have glossy white, and thinking about the dip effect on the end of legs in silver, but what silver?! Now I know thanks to you Gloria!:) Happy Happy Birthday to you, and I hope its a wonderful one! No wonder I feel like I know you, mine is in October also. :)
Now, all I can think about it finding a giant foo dog statue and flanking my garage door! Your chairs sound awesome! I want to see a picture if you go that route! Happy upcoming birthday too if you haven’t had it already!
Thanks! I had my doubts when I started reading the post.. I’ve never had great luck with silver but this color is perfect! I hope we can get it in Canada!
I bought it at a craft store. I thought I was buying a regular silver spray paint, but was pleasantly surprised when I first used it. I’m with you, most silver spray paint is kinda bleh.
AHHHHH! How did you KNOW I was mourning the fact that all silver spray paint has, thus far, been completely flat and non-angelic for me, totally not what I was going for?! I will have to buy some of this stuff ASAP. :)
Oh–and I love the new look of the foo dog and the vase. Shine makes everything better. :)
No way! Spray paint can do THAT? AND there’s the sound of flapping angel wings?! Totally sold. I thought silver spray paint could NEVER be this shiny. Yay! Loving the happy little foo dogs like they are now!
I love this! Every metallic spray paint I’ve tried so far has been a disaster, so I’m seriously excited to give this one a try! I just found your blog and I love it….definitely subscribing!
Get me that super metalic gorgeous spray paint PAlllleaaaaseeee the ones we have in Portugal are all kind’a BLEH!!! Love your blog! You’re funny!
