I kick-started the weekend with this project immediately after finding my ring. I didn’t even wait to eat dinner. That never happens, but what can I say? I was excited! See how happy I am?! I’m smiling, but that happens all of the time.
This mirror was given to me, and while I didn’t know what to do with it at the time, it is hard for me to say no to free stuff. So it sat, and sat and sat awaiting inspiration since I knew I didn’t want to just leave it as is.
Finally, I decided I would try covering the frame in fabric just to see what it would look like. The fabric I picked out was actually leftovers from my wedding invitations which I’ll have to post about sometime, when I find them.
I used a spray adhesive because, gasp!, I don’t own any modge podge. It worked.
Before I sprayed it, I covered the mirror with tape and paper, because that’s the smart thing to do. If if were paint, I wouldn’t tape it, but the spray adhesive makes such a gooey mess. Like I still have some leftover on my hands. Gross.
Once it was sprayed, I gently laid the fabric on it and pressing it into the grooves as much as possible. I used a piece of fabric that covered the entire mirror rather than doing strips on the sides. I wanted a seamless look on the corners.
Once the fabric was applied all of the way around, I took an exact-o blade and ran it along the inside to trim the excess fabric. It left a bit of a frayed edge. At first I wasn’t sure how I felt about it, but in the end I decided I liked it.
Ta-daaaa! Now came the hard part of finding a place to put this. I actually spent more time walking around the house with this in my hand than I did making it. Irony.
Oh look, an empty wall.
Yup, this will have to do.
I really like the way it turned out, just not sure how I like it in this location. I’m not kidding when I said I spent more time looking for a place to put it. It’s a sweet reminder of my wedding right out in the open. As if my husband isn’t enough of a reminder though.
